American Tea Party in Killeigh
A large crowd attended an American Tea Party fundraiser in Clonaslee on Sunday last for Killeigh Community Centre Development.
The committee was overwhelmed with the local support as they have only been established a little over four months and great progress has been made to work towards getting a community hall for the local people of Killeigh.
The fundraiser on Sunday resulted in over 300 people sitting down to an afternoon of tea and goodies and the music was provided by the band Blessed and Jimmy Brophy. Even a few line dancers dropped in to entertain the large crowd. Ken Spollen Food Appeal kindly dropped by to take donations of food which was very much appreciated.
The committee would also like to thank Ann Berry and Assumpta McGowan for presenting a cheque to the committee. These funds had been from a previous Playground Committee in Killeigh.
With the generosity of the fundraising events so far, the committee have now confirmed that it is in a position to cover all costs relating to the feasibility studies. This is being carried out at present by local man Conor Finnegan and his team of McCarty O'Hara Architects in Portlaoise.
The old Macra site on the Tullamore Road is being studied and the committee are confident these studies will be complete within weeks. This should determine whether the current site is suitable for a community centre and then decisions to renovate the existing hall or a total rebuild will have to be made.
The committee is confident from the turnout that the people of Killeigh will get behind this project and they are entirely grateful for the support they have received so far.
