Wintry spell ahead as rain warning issued for Leinster

A spell of bad weather is expected to hit the Midlands tomorrow (Wednesday) with heavy rainfall and freezing temperatures forecast.

Met Eireann recently issued a yellow-level rainfall warning for the provinces of Leinster and Munster. This will come into effect from midnight tonight and will remain in place until 9pm on Wednesday. 

Rainfall totals of 30 to 40mm are are expected, raising the risk of spot flooding in some areas. 

In general, conditions are likely to turn much colder as the week progresses, with temperatures of between 0 and 3 degrees forecast for Wednesday night. 

Showers are likely, also, and these may fall as snow on high ground.

Thursday will be colder again, with single-digit temperatures during the day that will drop as low as minus two at night. Showers or longer spells of rain could lead to icy stretches on roads. 

Friday and Saturday will also be cold, though showers on Saturday are likely to be confined to western and northern coasts.
