Man planning 60 consecutive ultra marathons seeks support in Offaly

Offaly residents are being encouraged to take part in an epic adventure that will see seasoned athlete Stevey McGeown run the entire perimeter of Ireland, over 2,400 miles, in sixty consecutive days this summer, with the support of BoyleSports.

Stevey will begin his amazing journey from his home in Armagh on June 1 next, to complete the first of sixty consecutive ultra-marathons (39.3 miles) each day.  

Taking in many of Ireland’s cities and towns on his ambitious round Ireland run, Stevey hopes to set five new world records, while raising funds for the Keith Duffy Foundation, which will support two causes – autism and Fighting Blindness.

“Get out there and join Stevey, and help make a big difference to families all over Ireland,” said Keith Duffy, whose Keith Duffy Foundation supports charities across Ireland.

Offaly residents are invited to join Stevey on days 46 and 47 of his epic run, Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17. The weekend will see Stevey leave Sally Gap for Bracknagh on Saturday, and on Sunday morning travel further west to finish in Ferbane later in the afternoon.  On Monday Stevey continue the run from Ferbane to Keenagh Village in Longford. Local supporters can also make a donation in support of the charities involved.

At the official launch last weekend, Stevey called on people to “run a 5k, 10k, or a complete ultra-marathon with me across Offaly, and help to do something special for people who are living with autism and fighting blindness in Ireland.”

Stevey’s route will take him north to Belfast and across the top of Ireland to Derry and Donegal, sweeping down the west of Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Limerick, and all the way to the bottom of Ireland at Mizen Head.  Crossing Cork, journeying up the Midlands, and then along the east coast to Dublin, the final leg of the journey will take Stevey on a scenic route back home to Armagh, finishing on Saturday, July 30 at the historical site of Navan Fort.

Stevey, a motivational speaker, businessman, and father of three, is hoping to set five new Irish world records with this ultra-challenging athletic endeavour.  The goal is also to raise €330,000 for the Keith Duffy Foundation, while inspiring others to overcome some of their greatest challenges.
