Tullamore train service not good enough for any town says cllr
Train passengers are paying the price for Irish Rail's decison to downgrade the services at Tullamore Station.
That's according to Tullamore county councillor Sinead Dooley, who says that train users are being offered a 'second class service' that is 'not good enough for any town, let alone the capital town of Offaly'.
“In the past few months commuters from Tullamore Train Station have been met with shutters down on the station when their train arrives into the station, there is no assistance for people with disabilities or toddler buggies to get across the platform, there is no access to the station to use toilet facilities. Those leaving the station have to queue in the rain to purchase tickets and if you are a holder of a free travel pass, it is not possible to obtain a ticket until you are on the train,' Cllr Dooley said.
Describing the level of service being provided in Tullamore as 'unacceptable', Cllr Dooley revealed that Offaly County Council has written to Irish Rail requesting 'management to attend our next council meeting to account for their actions and we will do everything in our power to have their latest short-sighted decisions overturned'.
