Mundy left in limbo after distributor goes into liquidation
Mundy is one of a number of Irish singers who have been left that in limbo after their distribution company went into liquidation.
The Birr artist released his eponymously titled sixth album to rave reviews in May, but he was dealt a setback earlier this month following the liquidation of his Irish distributor Indi Entertainment.
He estimates that are up to 1,000 copies of his latest album in the shops that he fears he may not see again.
“There’s lots of stock in the shops still, which is good, but if it doesn’t get sold I don’t know if I will get them back. From what has been sold, I don’t know if I’ll see that money.
“The timing is all wrong. I got the new album out in May and put a lot of work and effort into it. This is another spanner in the works, another thing I’ve been hit with that I have to try and figure out.
While he has often spoken about the freedom artists gain from releasing material independently, the singer says that his current problems with Indi Entertainment highlight the precariousness of the business.
“I’ve been working with the company since 2000 and we’ve had a great relationship and great success. At times it was way better to be independent than with a major record label but it looks as if that’s had its day too.
“I am just going to have to try and set up a proper online situation where I can send out stock when people want it.
Heading out to America this week for a short tour, Mundy says that he would like to get his stock back as soon as possible.
“The CD is going well at gigs. It’s potentially worth a lot more to me than it is to anyone else.”
