Award for offaly girl who never missed a day of school in eight years
A pupil has been recognised for never missing a day of school during her eight years at Scoil Mhuire in Cloneygowan.
Sixth class pupil Alannah McHugh was presented with an award for the incredible feat by broadcaster George Hook last Wednesday. Mr Hook was visiting the Scoil Mhuire to celebrate the raising of the school’s sixth green flag.
Scoil Ni Mhuire is only the second school in Offaly to achieve a sixth green flag. Teacher Maureen Fox co-ordinates the Green Schools’ programme in the school which has a Green School committee comprising of children from every class.
Mr Hook, who is well known from RTÉ and Newstalk, performed the honours. The school held a collection and raised some money for the IRFU Charitable Trust (a charity for injured rugby players). Mr Hook is a patron of the charity.
