Cigarettes worth 140000 seized at midland mail centre
Officers from Revenue’s Customs Service seized 308,000 cigarettes with a retail value of approximately €140,000 at Portlaoise Mail Centre today.
Following routine profiling, the ‘Queen Superslim’ cigarettes were discovered when Revenue’s sniffer dog, ‘Elvis’, gave a positive reaction on parcels that had been consigned from Mainland Europe.
Investigations are on-going. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295
