Elderly man dies after tullamore crash

An elderly man who suffered a suspected heart attack while driving in Tullamore has died.

Gardaí are investigating the fatal road traffic accident which occurred on the Arden Road near the hospital in Tullamore at approximately 1pm.

The man, who was aged in his mid 70’s, was pronounced dead at scene after the jeep he was driving collided with the kerbside and a minibus.

He was the driver and the sole occupant of the jeep. He has been removed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where a post mortem is to be arranged. There were no passengers on the bus and no other injuries have been reported.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.

Gardai in Tullamore are urging people to stay away from the area while the examination continues. There is no access to Arden View from the Arden Road and the road is closed from Scally's Centra.
