Warnings issued as snow and wind forecast
Met Eireann has issued two status yellow warnings as snow and high winds are expected to hit the country tomorrow morning.
A Snow-ice warning comes into effect at 6am tomorrow morning with Met Eireann expecting “wintry showers will bring snow accumulations of up to 3cm at lower levels during Wednesday and through Thursday, all areas at risk.”
The snow showers will be most frequent in the west and north and over hills and mountains where higher accumulations are expected.
Meanwhile, a national status yellow wind warning is in place from 7am tomorrow when southwest to west winds will reach average speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of between 90 and 110km/h. Coastal areas and the northwest are expected to experience the worst of the wind.
The outlook for the rest of the week isn’t much better as conditions are expected to remain bitterly cold through Thursday when more snow is predicted.
The airflow is expected to turn northerly over the weekend when severe frosts expected at night and more wintry showers likely in places.
Following Met Eireann's warning, the Road Safety Authority(RSA) has issued advice to motorists and pedestrians. It can be found on the RSA's website at www.rsa.ie
