23 people to lose jobs at flat bread company
Some 23 people are set to lose their jobs at the Flat Bread Company in Clara as the business is unlikely to be up and running again before summer.
A statement issued on behalf of the management and directors of the company this afternoon said the Flat Bread Company was resolutely committed to rebuilding the business in Clara following the recent devastating fire at its premises.
“The existing building will need to be demolished and we are currently working through the situation with our insurers, suppliers and staff. Our aspiration is to return to the area and recommence business as soon as possible. However, as we are totally reliant on specialist equipment which has to be manufactured and then sourced from the USA, this means that it is very unlikely we will be up and running again before the summer,” the statement read.
“Regretfully, this means that the majority of our staff will lose their jobs, a situation which we appreciate is devastating for those individuals and their families, but also frustrating and deeply disappointing for the management of the company.
“Excluding seasonal, temporary workers, this affects 23 people, with only nine people being retained on a full or part-time basis. We have been considering all options with our insurers to see how we can reopen as soon as possible. We value deeply our staff’s skills, loyalty and support but it is simply not possible for us to continue to pay them for what is an unspecified length of time or to expect them to wait until we may be in a position to offer them employment again.”
The Flat Bread Company added that keeping in touch with its customers and causing minimum disruption to their business was essential to it being able to secure a future for its own company.
“With respect to that, we have already put in place contingency supply for some products and are working on securing alternative supply for the remainder,” the statement read.
“We would like to thank all those who have offered support to us at this difficult time and hope we can get up and running as quickly as possible.”
