Tullamore library prepares for Black Magic

Many locals know Tony McCormack as a Tullamore councillor and businessman. Later today (Thursday), he'll be taking time out of both roles to officially launch a book of stories and poems written by a man of the same name - his father.

'Black Magic' is the name of Tony McCormack Snr's collection of stories and poems, written in the past seven years since getting - and beating - cancer. The collection is being launched at 8.15pm in Tullamore library on O'Connor Square.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent new author Tony said cancer has given him a new appreciation of life, and that he now tries to live life to the full every day.

'I do plan for the future, but I don't plan the outcome,' he explained of his new outlook, which inspired him to take up the hobby he enjoyed as a young man before 'life took over'.

Everyone is welcome to today's launch in Tullamore library. Those who miss it are also welcome to a launch in Kilbeggan parish centre on May 3 at 8.45pm, where the book will be launched by Offaly author Geraldine O'Neill.

Copies of 'Black Magic' will be available in Tullamore library and in local bookshops going forward at a cost of €10. All proceeds from the sale will go to The Friends of St Luke's.
