Edenderry playground committee appeals for new members

Edenderry Community Playground Committee is appealing for new members and for help from tradesmen and builders who may be able to donate their time for a one off overhaul of the playground.
The committee this week thanked all local shop owners who donated spot prizes for its raffle held in conjunction with the recent table quiz.
“It seemed a daunting task to go around asking for spot prizes but we have to say honestly that each and every business we approached gave generously and with a good heart knowing that it was in aid of the community playground. Their feedback and concern for the upkeep of the playground re-instilled our faith in this vital amenity that we have on our doorstep,” the committee said in a statement this week. “We would also like to thank Damien Donoghue for the use of his premises, Liam Hunston for setting the questions, and our two overseers on the night Dotty Murphy and Geraldine Norman. A great night was had by all and all monies collected went towards the first stages of erecting a higher steel fence in our attempts to prevent anti social behaviour.”
The committee said this week that it is desperately in need of new members who would be interested in meeting for about an hour once a month to discuss the running of the playground. The committee said this would particularly suit those who are currently on residents associations but it’s certainly not a requirement.
“Fresh input and ideas are required and as always fundraising will play a huge part for the continuous maintenance and safety requirements. The committee is optimistic that we approach Spring/Summer with a safe, clean and fun environment and therefore need your support,” the statement continued.
The committee is also planning a one off overhaul of the playground and is appealing to everyone, especially all workmen/tradesmen/builders and parents who would be able to donate their time. The work will include securing posts into the ground, some fencing work, sanding down and painting of benches, clearing pathways and perhaps a small bit of planting of shrubs and the committee envisages it will take about two to four hours.
