Two added to Fine Gael ticket in Birr area
West Offaly man Pat Phelan is one of two candidates added to the Fine Gael party ticket for the Birr electoral area for Offaly County Council.
In a statement this week, Fine Gael General Secretary Tom Curran said the Executive Council was adding Phelan and Cllr Denis Sheils (an Independent member of Birr Town Council) to the Fine Gael ticket for the Birr Electoral Area for Offaly County Council.
Patrick Phelan is the Unite Union representative for Bord na Móna craft workers at Shannonbridge and a sports commentator and analyst with Midlands Radio 103.
Cllr Denis Sheils has an track record in the political and voluntary sectors.
They join John Clendennen on the Birr ticket.
Tom Curran said: 'The Party’s Executive Council believes Fine Gael has put in place an excellent team in the Birr electoral area. We are very confident of success in the Local Elections to Offaly County Council’.
Phelan's addition comes after the decision of long-standing Cllr Connie Hanniffy to stand down.
