Parade plans are underway
The organising committee of the Tullamore St Patrick’s Day parade has said this week that plans for this year’s parade are well underway, as the committee hopes to build on the success of last year’s event.
The parade takes place on Monday, March 17, commencing at 11.30am from the carpark of the Bridge Centre.
“Last year was a special year as we had the 'Gathering’ weekend festival in conjunction with the parade. We want to build on that again and we promise yet another great parade,” stated parade secretary Cllr Sean O’Brien.
“The theme for this year is 'The Best Of Tullamore’. We want to celebrate all that is good in Tullamore in community organisations, voluntary groups, sport, history, music, arts, education, youth and culture. We want all groups to take part in the parade and really show Tullamore at its best. We are so lucky to have so many organisations in Tullamore and such great facilities and the parade gives everyone a chance to showcase all that is good,” outlined Cllr O’Brien.
The parade has a community focus and thus there will not be any commercial floats. A business is welcome to sponsor a float and advertise this on the float.
Bands are so important in a parade and the committee will be hoping to have a number of major bands. If anyone has a contact for a band they are asked to contact any member of the committee.
New members are always welcome and the organisers especially need people to assist with stewarding on the day.
The following committee was elected for this year: President - Seamus O’Connor; Chairman - John O’Toole; Vice-Chairman - Johnny O’Connor; Secretary/PRO - Sean O’Brien; Joint Treasurers - Pascal Fox and Seamus O’Connor; Assistant Secretary - Declan Harvey; Chief Marshall - Johnny O’Connor; Entertainment Co-Ordinator - Mark Quinlan.
