Are you ready for Tullamore's "Calendar Girls"?
The “Calendar Girls” concept is coming to Offaly!
As part of Tullamore Amateur Dramatics (TADS) production of a stage version of the show, the TADS ladies are to feature in their very own Calendar Girls calendar, which they’re hoping to sell to raise sponsorship for cancer research.
The group is currently looking for help from local businesses to help their cause, and any businesses looking to help are asked to contact Elaine Abbott on 086 1603853.
Calendar Girls is just one play TADS is to put on in the coming months. While it's scheduled for the stage in January, before then The Weir by Conor McPherson is being planned.
Directed by Frank O’Brien, The Weir is a play set in a rural Irish pub. It begins with a girl from Dublin moving into the locality and the regulars start telling her ghost stories. The Weir is due to be performed before Christmas in the very apt venue of the Tullamore Dew Heritage centre.
Calendar Girls is based on a true story about a group of English Women Institute members and their somewhat esoteric but very successful fundraising for a local cancer ward. Calendar Girls the play is an adaption of the movie which starred Helen Mirren. It’s a very funny and very touching play and is being directed by Gay Veitch. Calendar Girls will be performed in Tullamore at the end of January.
TADS is also under new management. After eight very successful years Denise Keoghan has stepped down as chairperson. The group’s new chairperson is Richella Scally, who is joined by secretary Gillian Harrington, PRO Ed Kelly and treasurer Mags Cahill.
