Auditions, Zoe's Audition comes to Birr on Saturday, October 5

Upcoming at Birr Theatre

From acting masterclasses to comedy, there’s lots going on at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre.

On Friday and Saturday next it’s the turn of Offaly Drama Project’s acclaimed acting masterclass with Geoff Colman - head of acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

The masterclass is an opportunity for experienced actors to train with an exceptional acting teacher of international renown and for directors and less experienced actors to observe a director engage with actors. Bookings for the events are on 086 8904828 or fionabreen247@gmail.com.

Next Tuesday, October 1, Birr Film Club makes a welcome return. The first film in this series is Lore, Australian director Cate Shortland’s adaptation of the novel The Dark Room by Rachel Seiffert.

The German language film explores the tribulations faced by the young in the aftermath of World War Two. A coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of a changing world, it shows new life emerging out of darkness with great intelligence and subtlety.

A real treat is in store meanwhile when Auditions, Zoe’s Audition comes to Birr on Saturday, October 5. An uplifting comedy, the show is about Zoe, a back stage worker who dreams of landing an acting job but whose senile agent sends her on an assortment of inappropriate auditions ranging from Riverdance to Spiderman and to being shot from a cannon for a touring circus.
