All go at Birr Theatre
There are two excellent events taking place at Birr Theatre this weekend, while anticipation is also building for future events at the venue including Ireland’s playwriting festival Scripts.
On Friday, August 30 Midlands MOVEment Wave - an initiative established by Nick Bryson of Legitimate Bodies dance company - comes to Birr Theatre. The movement provides a general open space for dancing to allow for mindfulness in movement and a meeting point for anyone who enjoys moving, inspired by the moment and an eclectic soundtrack. More information on the event is available by emailing legitimatebodies@gmail.com.
On Saturday, August 31 it’s the turn of A Musical Toast, which makes its highly anticipated return to the theatre. Rescheduled from May, this newly formed ensemble of baritone Jonathon Carter, tenor David Martin and soprano Audrey O’Meara is a reunion of friends who enjoy their music and are looking forward to coming together and having some fun.
Saturday’s varied programme will encompass all manner of musical experiences, from opera to musical theatre, and promises to give its audiences a wealth of experience, talent and playful fun.
Looking forward to next weekend at Birr Theatre an exciting conference drawing attention to and raising awareness of the historic Birr Workhouse will take place on August 6 and 7.
Topics for discussion will include the workhouse system, the Female Orphan Emigration Scheme and the final years of this workhouse. More information on that event is available by contacting Anne Ward on 086 3051697.
Anticipation is also building for Scripts, Ireland’s playwriting festival that runs from Sunday, September 8 until Saturday, September 14. More information on that festival is available at www.scriptsireland.com.
