Land needed for Edenderry cricketers

There is nowhere in Edenderry for potential Trent Johnstons to hone their skills and town councillor Noel Cribbin has said this week that’s just not cricket!

Cllr Cribbin has called for land to be made available for an Edenderry Cricket Club. Cricket fans in the area are stumped, so he says it’s now over to generous landowners now who might consider leasing some land.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent Cllr Cribbin said he has been approached by cricket fans in recent weeks looking for help locating a suitable land bank to play the popular game.

“Unknown to these people there is a long history of cricket being played in this area, and up to 25 or 30 years ago there was a very strong cricket club in the town,” Cllr Cribbin said.

Cllr Cribbin said he has made enquiries about facilities to local sports clubs, but with summer camps and huge numbers of underage children now involved in sport there is no space available to help out with the appeal.

Cllr Cribbin said he’s now looking to local landowners and asking them to consider leasing some land to facilitate the formation of a cricket club for the area.

Though not a cricket player himself, Cllr Cribbin said as a sports lover he would like to see a cricket club in the area.
