"Circumstance" is Birr Film Club's next offering
Birr Film Club presents 2011 Maryam Keshavarz directed movie “Circumstance” on Tuesday next, March 12. The film, which runs to 106 minutes, stars Nikohl Boosheri, Sarah Kazemy, Reza Sixo Safai, Soheil Parsa, Nasin Pakkho and Keon Mohajeri.
“Circumstance” revolves around the friendship and blossoming romance of two beautiful young women - the privileged and wealthy Atafeh and the lower-class Shireen - who yearn to escape to Dubai. The two walk around Tehran with their heads covered and in long gowns, though both wear tank tops and short dresses underneath.
In this oppressive and repressed world, it’s the little things that count as notable acts of rebellion. Atafeh’s brother Mehran has returned home after a stint in rehab, and quickly becomes involved with the religious fundamentalists and morality police. As he slowly becomes aware of the nature of the relationship between his sister and Shireen, he sees only one way to put a stop to it and the consequences are emotionally and politically devastating for the entire family.
“Circumstance” won the audience award at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The film will be screened at 8pm next Tuesday, with tickets available to members and non-members for €7, €5 and €3. For more see www.birrtheatre.com.
