BlackBerry Curve 9320: The ultra-convenient world of smartphones
These days we are, as a society, so 'wired up' that we're starting to take how powerful and useful our smartphones are for granted.
You might know the feeling. You've got your essentials: your work, your entertainment and all your friends at your fingertips. It's hard not to be addicted! Smartphones in the BlackBerry series, such as the BlackBerry Curve 9320, have become necessary to modern life. And it seems people are using their phones for everything.
Want an example? Recently, seismologists in California started using smartphones to track earthquake activity. And that's just one among many unusual uses. Of course, unless tracking earthquakes is in your job description, it's probably not something you do with your smartphone. But there are probably many simple things you do on a weekly basis that your phone has enabled you to and until the arrival of the smartphone, you probably weren't able to do these things at all.
Instantly update the world about your travels…
The postcard is dead. It was killed by smartphones with internet access. So, whether tweeting about your experiences in real time, checking into every single spot you visit on Foursquare, or uploading a travel diary to Facebook or your personal blog, the world can know what you're up to and where you are instantly.
Use your 'free' time as productive time. Or fun time…
Gone are the days of sitting on a crowded train, staring awkwardly out of the window, counting down the number of stops, bored out of your brain. Now you can watch films, play games, review your work notes, tweet celebrities silly things or text your friends. Free time will never be the same again, and neither will your attention span.
Take photos and record videos on a whim...
Something interesting happening nearby? Why not take a photo? Or a video? Or both? And even if it's not that interesting, you can film or photograph it anyway. Because you have the storage space. And then you can put it on YouTube. And people will watch it!Many thousands of cat videos are clear evidence of this....
Resolve disputes instantly by Googling the facts...
Nowadays it's so easy to call people out or win a debate. You have proof! But just be sure you can cite your sources and remember your facts when you make your political/historical/religious/scientific diatribe. Because nobody is safe from being 'verified' anymore!
Work out that name of that song that you are listening to...
Just aim your phone at the speakers and use an app such as Shazam or SoundHound to identify it.
Live in musical bliss...
Gone are the days when you had to carry your phone and your music player with youif you wanted to make a phone call and listen to music. These days you can stream an almost limitless collection of music as well, using apps like Spotify or Last.fm.
Never get lost again...
There's no need to carry a map around with you anymore. If you've got 3G, then you've probably got GPS. That means you can tap into millions upon millions of pounds worth of metal and silicon hanging around a few miles above your head. And triangulate your position on the earth's surface within 15 meters. Cool.
Make friends and influence people...
Met a cool new person on your night out? Make the connection instantly and never miss out on that opportunity to create a new relationship. And not just with a phone number. Some apps allow you to connect with someone instantly by bringing your phones close together. And the 'old fashioned' among us can still swap Facebook details or Twitter handles.
We don't even need business cards anymore. Smartphones have made the world easier and far more convenient for everybody who's got one. Sure, some people talk about 'technology addiction' like it's a bad thing. But if this much convenience is an 'addiction', then we don't want to get better anytime soon.
