'The Mire' to premiere in Birr
In the past twelve years Birr Theatre's arts programme has grown dramatically to include facilitating a resident dance company and hosting several arts festivals. Now the theatre is set to co-produce a new work alongside the Tullamore based Jasango Theatre. 'The Mire' by Siobhan Donnellan is the work to be co-produced. 'The Mire' takes a look at Law Lyons and his wife, who have lived in the Rún Bog all their life. It's difficult terrain with acres of unchartered territory, yet when handled correctly it yields one of life's most essential resources. When fate deals Law a cruel blow, Rún Bog becomes tainted and an unwilling ally in a series of events nobody could have predicted. With dark humour and a mystical undercurrent, 'The Mire' explores love, relationships and our powerlessness to protect the things most precious to us. The one-act play will be premiered in Birr Theatre on Friday, September 28. Commissioned especially for the Bo Leictreach 2012 festival, it will be directed by Angela Ryan and Lisa Daly.
