Still lots going on at Birr Theatre

The summer might be drawing to a close, but there's still lots going on at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre. Over the coming weeks the theatre is set to welcome the greatest dance party of the year along with performances by Frankie Gavin and De Danann as well as Birr's John Molloy. Emma Barone's "Underwater Dream" exhibition continues to show at the theatre. Her latest series of paintings explore how being underwater can distort, enhance and ultimately change one's perspective. The exhibition runs until mid-September. Next Friday, August 24, the theatre gets dancing as Legitimate Bodies Dance Company celebrates its fifth year as resident dance company at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration, while also getting a sneak preview of the company's latest production "Project Deep Well". Anyone wishing to go should get in touch with legitimatebodies@gmail.com. Following an overwhelming public reaction Frankie Gavin and De Danann will return to Birr with their Up Close and Personal Tour 2012 on Friday, August 31. Those who attended the band's previous performances will agree that the talent of the individual band members and the overall entertainment value inherent in the band's delivery was nothing short of exceptional. September 1 then sees a very special evening taking place - the return of the internationally acclaimed Birr bass baritone John Molloy. Special guest on the evening is Anthony Kearns, while more friends and guests are expected to join throughout the night. Early booking for this one is strongly advised.
