Life after Irish for Des in Tullamore
Des Bishop has announced that he"s taking his brand new stand up show "Unbéarlable" on tour and is coming to Tullamore on February 25. The show, on in the Bridge House Hotel, takes a hilarious look at life after learning Irish, for a native New Yorker finding his way. Des dissects the struggles of the Irish that he also identifies as his own; alcoholism, a fear of intimacy and those impressionable years spent in a Catholic boarding school in the Diocese of Ferns. Listen to his unique memories of slow sets, supper tickets and stolen pints… After 18 years in Ireland, Des has reached his Irish adulthood and now his Irish inner child is crying to get out and wants you to listen. Des"s journey learning Irish was documented for his third television series In the Name of the Fada. Broadcasting to record numbers, Des"s experience is said to "mark his true development as a comedian and an Irishman". Des went on to perform to sell-out crowds with his stand up show Tongues based on his gaeltacht experiences. His subsequent preoccupation with the language and how it is being taught saw Des create an online learning Irish tool on desbishop.com and record and release "Jump Around" as Gaeilge. He has also met both the Minister for Education and Taoiseach Brian Cowen to discuss the current Irish curriculum. His efforts for the Irish language culminated just recently with the Gael n Bliana award from Foinse. For full tour details visit desbishop.com
