Ballycumber Drama presents a modern comedy
It"s showtime this weekend for the Ballycumber Amateur Drama Group as its production of Jimmy Keary"s "Too Close To Home" debuts this weekend. Directed by Brendan Hanamy, this play will be staged in Ballycumber Community Centre this Saturday, January 24, at 9pm and Sunday, January 25, at 8pm. It will then be staged in Pullough Community Centre on Saturday, January 31, at 8pm. This is Ballycumber"s first time to produce a three-act play and it promises to be very entertaining. The play is set in modern times and revolves around the trials and tribulations of various members of one family and their neighbours. One of the main characters James Ryan is a teacher on summer holidays, whose obsession with writing a play for the summer is driving everyone mad. Meanwhile his brother Declan is intent on seducing James"s wife Trish, who is not getting the attention she feels she deserves. Alongside this, Trish"s father Kevin Mitchell is having an affair with the local physio, Rosaleen Flavin, and when James finds out about it, he decides to use the story as a basis for his play. Kevin"s wife Netta has her suspicions about Kevin and is determined to find out what"s going on, but gets in trouble with the local guard Patrick Doyle, when she is reported to Traffic Watch for dangerous driving. Add in to the mix the nosy neighbour Biddy Hunt and the eccentric Justin Tweedy, the producer of James"s play and things really get confusing. The cast this year includes Carol Robbins, Derek Claffey, Liz Egan, Paddy O"Connor, William Healy, Cora Healy and Peter Dunne who have all taken part in previous productions with BADG. The group also has two new members this year, Chris Murphy and Claire Ward. Both Chris and Claire have a lot of experience and have been involved in numerous productions with other drama groups.
