Lucky escape for pilot after helicopter crashes in Kinnitty

A pilot had a lucky escape when his helicopter crashed near Kinnitty this afternoon.

The pilot, of the Robinson 44 helicopter, was the sole occupant, when it came down near the village this afternoon.

It's understood the helicopter was on its way to collect a bride and groom and to fly them to a wedding reception in North Tipperary.

A spokesman for the Air Accident Investigation Unit said there was no reports of any injuries.

Gardai are reported to have sealed off the scene - and an air accident investigation is underway.
