Killeigh without post office from today

Killeigh is today without a post office service, following the retirement of Joe and Bridget Plunkett. The local post office closed its doors for the last time yesterday evening.

An Post says it’s committed to sourcing a new contractor and premises as soon as possible, but locals are worried about the future of the service nonetheless.

Customers of the post office are being advised to use Tullamore post office until a service is available again in the village.

An Post advertised the opportunity to head up a new post office in Killeigh on its website in May. Following a lack of suitable applications the opportunity was re-advertised last month.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the latest advertisement has resulted in expressions of interest, but declined to say how many applications had been submitted.

The spokesperson did say that those expressions of interest are now being looked at, and more news could be available within a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile An Post is currently looking for a retail partner for its post office in Kilcormac.

Interested applicants have until next Friday, August 8, to contact An Post’s retail regional office team in Dundalk about that opportunity.
