Tips on attracting eligible farmers at Tullamore Show

Eligible farmers who feel they’re being watched at Tullamore Show this Sunday might be right.

Author of ‘Would You Marry A Farmer?’ Lorna Sixsmith suggests agricultural shows as the perfect place to meet farmers in the book she self-published last December.

She’ll be at Tullamore Show herself this weekend too, explaining to visitors just what marrying a farmer means and why they are considered a good catch.

Mother-of-two Lorna is of course married to a farmer herself. She and husband Brian James run a dairy and beef farm in Laois. In September 2011 Lorna began a blog to discuss farming issues and share what farming life is like in Ireland. The resulting book, which has sold almost 1,300 copies to date, offers anecdotes from her own farming life as well as providing tips to farmers, farmers’ wives and those looking for a farmer to marry.

“The book is a more than a witty guide to finding a good farmer,” Lorna said earlier this week. “It’s a realistic and humorous look at farming life as it tells women what to expect.”

According to Lorna the book has to date been enjoyed by both men and women.

Those picking up a copy at Tullamore Show will find themselves no longer worrying about what wellies to wear to shows to send out the right signals, will quickly get to grips with farming lingo and will also be able to easily work out what is the best month to marry a farmer with future anniversary celebrations in mind.

Anyone who wants to visit Lorna will find her in the business pavilion.
