Rhode company takes advantage of cancellation of Garth Brooks' gigs

Gary Farrell of Nevada Signs in Rhode was meant to be going to see Garth Brooks in Croke Park this Sunday. Instead of being disappointed the concerts are off however, he and his brother Dale have turned the cancelled concerts into something of a revenue stream.

Nevada Signs came up with the idea of bumper stickers for disappointed Garth Brooks’ fans when it transpired none of his five Croke Park concerts would take place. Now they’ve sold almost 200 of the stickers that proudly proclaim ‘I almost saw Garth Brooks in Croke Park July 2014’.

“It was really just for the craic at the start,” Dale explained of the stickers that are being sold through donedeal and ebay. “I’d say we’re coming close to finishing out the second lot of 100 at the moment though.”

The seven by three inch stickers are printed on high quality vinyl with overlaminate, which means they’ll easily survive car washes, bad weather and a lot more that could be thrown at them. “They’re going to last for years,” Dale said.

The cost of one sticker is €6, while €10 bags buyers two. The furthest one of the stickers has travelled since going on sale is Alberta in Canada. As would be expected, the majority of buyers are in Ireland, but sales have also been made to people living in America and England.

Dale said he’s encountered nothing but good humour from buyers yet, and added that they will continue to produce the tongue-in-cheek stickers while demand for them exists.
